Ethernet W5100 Shield Network Expansion Board w/ Micro SD Card Slot for Arduino
The Arduino Ethernet Shield enables your Arduino board to connect to the internet, leveraging the Wiznet W5100 Ethernet chip. This chip provides a complete network (IP) stack that supports both TCP and UDP protocols, making it ideal for internet-based projects. The Ethernet W5100 Shield also features a Micro SD card slot, allowing you to store or retrieve files over the network, and supports up to four simultaneous socket connections.
To get started, you can use the Ethernet library to write sketches that connect your Arduino to the internet. The shield is designed to connect to your Arduino board via long wire-wrap headers, ensuring the pin layout remains intact, and it allows you to stack additional shields on top without interference.
This shield is compatible with the latest Arduino UNO R3 and Mega boards. It includes a standard RJ-45 Ethernet port, with an integrated line transformer, and supports Power over Ethernet (PoE). The onboard Micro SD card slot is accessible through the SD library, and the SS pin is located on Pin 4. Please note that the shield no longer supports the full-size SD card slot available in earlier revisions.
The updated version of this Ethernet Shield also includes a reset controller, ensuring the W5100 Ethernet module resets correctly on power-up—a feature that was not available in earlier versions, which required manual resetting when used with the Mega board.
